DBMS ConteXt

DBMS ConteXt Structure
We have been developing a technology allows to have a graphical interface to remote Unix computer using a standard web browser or a stand-alone application. In the first case the client side does not require anything to be install. The client's operating system is not important. The transport protocol can be both telnet and SSH. The terminal emulates the color alphameric and graphical terminal (256 colors from which 64 is programmable). The terminal can output characters, draw lines, arcs, rectangles and graphical images. Besides the terminal is capable to activate Java or MFC classes by means of Esc-sequences coming from the Unix side. On the server side the libraries written on C and C++ realize these possibilities. Thus programmer developing the application on C/C++ for Unix has possibility to use the graphical user interface and Java classes. On the basis of this technology a set of utilities is developed: file manager, text and binary editors, utility of review JPEG and GIF images, utility of review html and text files and browser of the DBMS ConteXt.
ConteXt is an object-oriented Data Base Management System (ODBMS) for multi-user interactive operations with the centralized databases. ConteXt has network architecture and a large set of the data types from usual types - such as character strings, numbers and texts, to pointers (references), aggregate types and arrays. Main differences ConteXt from others DBMS this presence of a universal database browser (DB-browser). DB-browser is the utility providing program-independent interface to the database. The programmer does not write all interfaces but only adds specific features of the application to the standard environment. In other words, programmer helps DB-browser only in specific cases but the whole interface is basically producing by the DB-browser. Access to the DB-browser is possible from any computer on the Internet as long as that computer has a WEB-browser with Java support. Having a universal database browser allows to significantly reduce the development time for database applications.

BossEye: Real-Time Employee Monitoring.

"...Small companies are home to the greatest number of telecommuters, more than half the total. The nature of these businesses--nimble, more integrated with home life-makes them ideal environments for at-home workers." Behind the advantages, however, are limits and risks. Employing distributed workers does pay, but it will cost you, too. "Maintaining productivity is the issue people worry about most," says Lilly Platt, president of Legato Consulting, a distributed work team consulting firm in Newton, Massachusetts. "The first question they ask is, 'How do I know they're working when I can't see them?'"
(http://www.entrepreneur.com Feb.2005)
"...But how much of that is for business use, and how much for your employee's personal use? How much productivity is lost through non-business use if there is no employee monitoring?"

"... some reasons strongly reflect often quoted barriers to greater use of telework - the “out of sight = out of control” fear."

"...It boils down to a control issue. There are a lot of managers who only feel comfortable being able to talk to their employees and see their work every day. "

BossEye has been developed for companies where employees can be located in different places (including at-home work) but manager wants to know what's going on. The goal of our software is not to spy on employees and collect proof that your employees are abusing business work time. Our mission is help to manager to improve productivity. This is main difference between BossEye and Spy Ware.

The manager can see up to 16 screens of the employee computers at once. He can take a quick look at the monitor and will see full real-time picture of the employee's activity. This information includes two parameters: a screenshot of his monitor as well as the time since the last user's action (using mouse or keyboard). It's similar to the manager looking at the employee's monitor over his shoulder. The picture can be zoomed up to full screen size. This program doesn't require any actions during the operation; you can minimize the window and is open it only when you want to look at the team. Besides the manager can communicate with an employee using the keyboard or a voice. The first option reminds ICQ, the second one allows talking with employee (VoIP technology).

Boss Eye consist of two parts, there are BossEye Office and BossEye Agent. Office is running on the manager's computer, the Agent is located on the employee workstation. Usually programs like Agent are operating in stealth mode (other words: invisible). We think that employees have the right to close their computer from time to time (for instance in case of at-home work), and therefore our Agent has two installation options - hidden and honest. In the second case an employee can close the screen transfers but the manager will be properly informed.
Platform: Windows NT/2000/XP.

How does BossEye work:

There are two cases:

Employee PC has a permanent address or a static IP.
Employee PC has a dynamic address..
In this case the Boss Computer sends a request directly to the Employee PC using Address information from the Settings dialogue. The request includes a Screen Name encrypted by the Registration Number. If BossEye Agent on the Employee PC is able to decrypt this message and if the Screen Name matches the User Name, the Agent sends the information to the Boss Computer. In this case, every 10 minutes the BossEye Agent will call a PHP program (boss_eye.php) located on the HTTP server. After authorization boss_eye.php will store the current user's IP in the appropriate file. Before sending request to Employee PC, The BossEye Office will download this file and read the actual IP.

If you are using BossEye inside the company, there is little point to use an HTTP Server. This option is important when employees are working at home or from a remote place outside of the corporate network (for instance in the case of a dial-up connection).

For security reasons all information transfers are encrypted.
